About
Celia Hargrave is a British ultrarunner and former head teacher from Sheepscombe, Gloucestershire, who took up running in late 1980 with her husband ahead of her first London Marathon in 1981. She went on to become one of Britain's leading 24-hour track specialists, completing 24 track ultras and recording a best distance of just over 120 miles, which ranked her 6th in the world at the time. In 2000 she became the first British woman to complete the Sahara Marathon, a 144-mile, 18-day multi-stage desert race, using the challenge to raise more than £7,000 for her local village hall. Her marathon best of 2:46 was run in Birmingham.
