About

Emily Baer is an American ultrarunner based in Silverton, Colorado, whose career is defined by both remarkable performance and a pioneering spirit on the high-altitude trails of the San Juan Mountains. In 2003 she set the women's Fastest Known Time on the Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim route in 9 hours and 25 minutes, a record that stood for eight years before being progressively broken by the next generation of elite runners beginning in 2011. At the 2007 Hardrock 100 she finished second among women and eighth overall — while stopping at aid stations to breastfeed her infant son — a performance that became one of the sport's most celebrated examples of a new mother competing at the highest level. A Silverton local with deep roots in the region's mountain running community, she also organised the Silverton Alpine Marathon, creating a marathon-length course over the Alpine Loop Jeep Roads that crests two passes approaching 13,000 feet.
