Francesco Puppi

Francesco Puppi is an Italian trail runner born on January 26, 1992, near Lake Como in northern Italy, a physics graduate who has built one of the sport's most consistent and technically impressive résumés across the 50km-to-100km distance. He began with track, cross-country, and road running at age six before transitioning to trail and mountain racing in his twenties, earning a world championship title at the 2017 World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships. He trains with Atletica Valle Brembana and represents Hoka. In 2022 he co-founded the Pro Trail Runners Association with Kilian Jornet and Pascal Egli to advocate for professional trail running standards and athlete welfare; the organisation has since grown to over 270 members. His racing record is exceptional in its depth and frequency: wins at OCC-UTMB (2023), CCC-UTMB (2025), and course records at Canyons 100k by UTMB (2025), Lavaredo 50k by UTMB (2023 and 2025), Transgrancanaria Marathon 47k (2025), Chuckanut 50k (2024), and Lake Sonoma 50m (2024). He holds a personal best of 2:16:18 for the marathon and 14:28 for 5,000m, underscoring the speed underpinning his endurance. He hosts two trail running podcasts, coaches through Vert.run, and is widely respected both as a competitor and as a voice for the sport's professionalisation.
