Jiasheng Shen is a Chinese trail runner from the mountainous municipality of Qujing in Yunnan Province who was recruited into China's ti xiao sports boarding school system at 15 to train as a steeplechase specialist, progressing to a professional athletics team in Ningxia autonomous region before stepping away from track at around 20 and discovering trail running in 2016. He rose rapidly through the field, winning the Gaoligong by UTMB and the Hong Kong 100 in his early years before claiming the 2019 HK100 and, in 2022, the Eiger Ultra Trail by UTMB 101km in a course record of 10:44:38. A North Face-COROS athlete with a UTMB Index of 891, he also finished second at the CCC by UTMB in 2023 and has been a podium contender at the Lavaredo Ultra Trail, making him one of China's most consistently successful performers on the global mountain ultra circuit. His background — altitude-adapted from childhood in Yunnan, technically prepared from years in China's competitive athletics system — gives him a physiological profile that very few international competitors can match.
