About
Karine Herry is a French ultrarunner born January 2, 1968 in Lanmeur, Brittany, who combined an extraordinary competitive career with a demanding professional life as a rural general practitioner specialising in nutrition and sports medicine in the Haute-Loire. She discovered running at age 23 when she met her future husband and coach Bruno Tomozyk, and progressed from cross country to 100km road racing with remarkable speed, accumulating more than 150 victories across trail and ultra formats over her career. Her résumé is among the most decorated in French ultra history: seven consecutive French 100km champion (2001–2007), French 24-hour champion (2007), World 100km team champion (1999), and European 100km team champion (2005). She won the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc in 2006 and the Grand Raid de la Réunion (Diagonale des Fous) in both 2006 and 2011. Her most singular achievement may be the Grand Trail des Templiers — which she won nine times, a record unmatched in the event's history. She holds personal bests of 2:47:07 at the marathon, 7:42:36 at 100km, and the French 24-hour record of 222.657km set in 2007. Sponsored by Lafuma, she was knighted as Chevalier de l'ordre national du Mérite in 2012 for her services to sport. A mother of twins, she closed her competitive career in 2014.
