About
Kyle Skaggs is an American ultrarunner who, in July 2008 at age 23, became the only person ever to finish the Hardrock 100 in under 24 hours, setting a course record of 23:23 through Colorado's San Juan Mountains that beat the previous record by three hours and the second-place finisher by more than six. Raised on a farm in Glenwood, New Mexico, he barely ran competitively in high school and didn't begin running seriously until his junior year at The Evergreen State College, yet rapidly developed into one of the sport's most explosive talents. In the lead-up to his Hardrock victory he set major fastest-known-times on iconic routes, running the 94-mile Wonderland Trail around Mount Rainier in 20:53 (breaking the old record by hours) and completing a Grand Canyon rim-to-rim-to-rim double crossing in 7:37. Skaggs largely stepped away from competitive racing not long after his record-setting Hardrock run, leaving his sub-24-hour mark unmatched for over a decade.
