About

Lon Freeman is an American ultrarunner from Kensington, California who worked as a financial resource analyst at the Berkeley National Lab while building an impressive record of course records and race wins across the Northern California trail and ultra circuit in the 2000s and early 2010s. Living half a mile from Tilden Park with access to hundreds of miles of trails for daily training, he was one of the Bay Area's most consistent elite performers across the 50km to 100km spectrum. His standout performance came at the 2007 Miwok 100K, where he took 12 minutes off an 8-year-old course record to finish in 8:09 — one of the strongest 100K performances by a Northern California athlete in that period. He also set course records at the Stevens Creek 50K (2005), Muir Beach 50K (2006), and Rucky Chucky 50K (2004, 4:28), and won the Skyline 50K (4:00). His first 100-mile attempt came at the 2004 LA Crest 100, where he finished 4th overall in 20:38. He extended his range into Ultraman, a multi-day format covering 515km across three days, demonstrating versatility across extreme endurance disciplines. Freeman is among the formative figures of the Bay Area ultra running scene that produced so many of American trail running's early elite practitioners.
