Louis Schindler is a New Zealand ultrarunner who has built a strong record on his home trails around Rotorua and Central Otago. He finished 3rd at the Tarawera Ultramarathon by UTMB 100-mile race in 2021 in 19:42:54, then returned in 2023 to place 4th overall in the Tarawera 100-mile event over 165.2km with 5,470m of climbing. Beyond Tarawera, Schindler has won the James Stampede 50K and the Northburn 100 Miler — a brutally steep Central Otago course with roughly 9,460m of vertical gain — finishing the latter in just under 24 hours, and he also raced the Tarawera Ultra-Trail by UTMB in 2024.
