About

Marco Aurélio Martins Farinazzo is a Brazilian ultramarathoner and officer in the Brazilian Army, serving with the Command of the 4th Mountain Infantry Brigade in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. He began competing athletically in 1982 in race-walking before transitioning to ultra-distance running, and on July 14, 2009 he made history by winning the Badwater Ultramarathon — the 217km race across Death Valley in temperatures reaching 55°C — in 23 hours, 39 minutes and 18 seconds, becoming only the second person ever to finish the race in under 24 hours. He is also the solo champion of Brazil's BR-135, completing the 281km race in just over 40 hours, and is one of only four athletes in the world to have finished all three legs of the BAD 135 World Cup, and the only one to have won two of them.
