About
Marshall Ulrich is a Colorado-based ultrarunner and mountaineer who won the Badwater 135/146 an unprecedented four times — in 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1996 — setting the 1991 course record of 33:54. He has finished Badwater 18 times and crossed Death Valley a record 24 times, including a self-supported, unaided solo Badwater Quad of roughly 586 miles, pulling his own supplies in a cart. He has completed 124 ultramarathons averaging over 100 miles, climbed the Seven Summits, and finished 12 expedition-length adventure races. In fall 2008, at age 57, he ran 3,063.2 miles from San Francisco to New York in 52.5 days, setting Masters and Grand Masters records for the fastest crossings of the US on foot. His 2011 memoir "Running on Empty" chronicles that run and his broader endurance career.
