Michael Ohler

About

Michael Ohler is a German ultrarunner and UESCA-certified coach from the Bienwald region of the Palatinate who took up running in 2010 after deciding to address obesity, chronic heartburn, and a herniated disc, later transitioning from marathons into multi-day and backyard ultra racing. He has finished the Western States 100, UTMB, and the Spartathlon, and completed the Badwater 135 in the same clothing from start to finish. In 2022 he placed 6th at the 24-Hour European Championships with more than 261km, setting a German age-group record and the third-best 24-hour distance by a German runner in history. He finished runner-up at the Witiker Backyard Ultra near Zürich, completing 40 yards for 268.2km before yielding to Sweden's Niklas Sjöblom. Ohler now organizes the Bienwald Backyard Ultra and serves as team captain for Germany at Big's Backyard Ultra's satellite world championships.
