Mohamed El Morabity is a Moroccan ultrarunner and the younger brother of Marathon des Sables legend Rachid El Morabity — the only runner consistently capable of threatening the elder El Morabity's near-total dominance of the race. Growing up in Zagora's desert running culture, where their family farms watermelons and Rachid was already becoming a legend, Mohamed developed into an elite Saharan specialist in his own right, collecting seven runner-up finishes at the MDS before claiming the race outright in 2023. He won again in 2026, dominating five of the six stages to finish in 20:47:39 — nearly 30 minutes clear of Rachid in second, one of the most remarkable outcomes in the race's history, with the brothers finishing first and second. His two victories represent the only editions in a 15-year stretch where someone other than Rachid stood on the top step — and in both cases, the winner was still an El Morabity. Together, the brothers have defined an era of Moroccan supremacy in Saharan ultra-stage racing without parallel in the sport's modern history.
