Ruth-Marie Milliman is an American ultrarunner from South Carolina who has held multiple state road-race records since beginning competitive running in 1992. Her signature result came at the 2003 Marathon des Sables, the seven-day, 152-mile stage race across the Sahara often billed as the toughest footrace on the planet, where she finished 2nd among 59 women and 100th overall out of 677 starters. Her run there was featured in an Emmy-nominated ESPN special, "Foot Race Across the Sand." She has since raced under the married name Ruth Marie Embler.
