About
Sam Harvey is a New Zealand ultrarunner from Canterbury who is one of the world's most versatile endurance athletes, excelling across backyard ultras and mountain trail racing. In 2023 he equalled the backyard ultra world record at the Big's Backyard Ultra Championships, running 677km across 101 loops — an extraordinary feat preceded by a regional win on broken ribs. On the trails he won the Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB in 2024, then three months later became the first New Zealander to win the Tarawera Ultra-Trail TMiler (100 miles), clocking 15:16:54 — more than 15 minutes clear of second place. A CurraNZ athlete who has publicly stated an ambition to run 1,000km in a single backyard event, Harvey's competitive ceiling appears far from reached.
