Andrea Huser (11 December 1973 – 1 December 2020) was a Swiss trail runner, nurse, and multi-discipline mountain athlete from Sigriswil in the Bernese Oberland who is remembered as one of the most complete mountain endurance athletes in the sport's history. She arrived at trail running after a distinguished multi-sport career: she was the inaugural women's champion at the 2002 European Mountain Biking Championships, won the Inferno Triathlon twice (2011, 2012), and was a member of the Mammut ski-mountaineering team. When she turned her full attention to trail racing the results were exceptional: two wins each at the Eiger Ultra Trail and the Diagonale des Fous (Grand Raid de la Réunion), the TDS by UTMB in 2015, two second-place finishes at UTMB Mont-Blanc (2016 and 2017), a 10th at Western States 100 in 2017, and the overall Ultra-Trail World Tour title in 2017. After suffering her fourth stress fracture in three years she retired in June 2020. Six months later, on 1 December 2020, she was killed in a training accident near Saas-Fee, Switzerland, slipping on ice-covered rocks and falling more than 400 feet. She was ten days from her 47th birthday. Her warmth, brilliance, and generosity toward runners of every level are deeply missed across the trail world.
