About

Julien Chorier is a French civil engineer and ultra-trail runner born October 16, 1980 in Isère, now based in Saint-Thibaud-de-Couz in Savoie, whose career has spanned nearly two decades of elite mountain ultra competition across four continents. A former national-level cyclist, he transitioned to trail running in 2006 and within a year had won the CCC by UTMB — 101km from Courmayeur to Chamonix — in one of the most striking debut performances the race had seen. What followed was a decade of global dominance at the sport's most demanding events: two victories at the Grand Raid de la Réunion (Diagonale des Fous, 2009 and 2011), one of the world's most revered island ultras; the Hardrock 100 in Colorado's San Juan Mountains in 2011; the Ultra Trail du Mont Fuji in 2012; and the Madeira Island Ultra-Trail (MIUT) in 2014 and 2016. He holds a doctorate in civil engineering and habitat sciences, with doctoral research focused on fire risk diagnosis and evaluation of buildings, and has practised as a building engineer since 2003. At age 45, Chorier proved his remarkable longevity by winning the Four Trails Challenge in Hong Kong in 2026 — 298km and 14,500m of elevation gain in 55 hours 12 minutes. A Hoka athlete and team captain, he continues to race and inspire at the highest level well into his mid-40s.
