About
Kristin "Krissy" Moehl was born October 28, 1977 in Bow, Washington and is one of the most influential pioneers in the history of women's ultra trail running. She grew up near Bellingham, competed in the 800 metres at the University of Washington, and then discovered trail running — winning the Chuckanut 50K women's race in a new course record just three months after her first trail run. In 2003 she flew to Europe and won the inaugural Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, one of the defining moments in early UTMB history, won by an American before almost anyone in Europe had heard of her. She returned in 2009 to win again, setting the women's course record at 24:56:01. Between and beyond those victories she completed the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning in 2005 as its youngest-ever female finisher; set the women's course record at the Hardrock 100 in 2007 (29:24:45); and won the Wasatch Front 100 (2004), Vermont 100 (2005), HURT 100 Mile, San Diego 100 (2011), and Ultra Trail Mt. Fuji (2013). Long based in Bellingham, Washington, she is the long-serving race director of the Chuckanut 50K, a Patagonia ambassador, and the author of Running Your First Ultra (2015). She is considered one of the most important women in trail running history.
