About
Marco Olmo is an Italian ultrarunner from Alba, Piedmont, regarded as one of the sport's most inspirational late bloomers. He worked as a crane operator at a small quarry and did not begin running regularly until age 27, only entering major international ultramarathons at 37 after years building a base through mountain races and ski mountaineering. His career peaked remarkably late: at ages 58 and 59 he won the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) in back-to-back years, finishing first in 2006 in 21:06:06 and again in 2007 in 21:31:58, making him by far the oldest champion in the race's history and a global symbol that mental resilience can outlast physical decline. He added a win at the Transgrancanaria in 2008 (12:25:40) and competed in more than twenty editions of the Marathon des Sables across his long desert and mountain ultrarunning career.
