About

Fernanda Maciel is a Brazilian skyrunner and environmental advocate from Belo Horizonte who left a career as an environmental lawyer to pursue one of trail running's most globally diverse résumés. A former gymnast (competing from age eight) and practitioner of capoeira and jiu-jitsu, she began running at 15 and between 2009 and 2015 won some of the sport's most prestigious events: the TDS by UTMB, Transgrancanaria (2012), the Lavaredo Ultra Trail (2011), Ultra Trail Mt Fuji, and the Everest Trail Race (2013). Since 2016 she has channelled her competitive drive into the Seven Summits FKT project — setting women's speed records on Aconcagua (22 hours 52 minutes round-trip, 2016), Kilimanjaro (10 hours 6 minutes, 2017), Mount Vinson, Mount Elbrus, and the Carstensz Pyramid — to raise awareness of climate change and wilderness protection. A longtime The North Face athlete, she is now based in the Spanish Pyrenees.
