About

Nerea Martínez Urruzola is a Spanish endurance athlete born on January 5, 1972, originally from Pamplona and later based in Navalafuente in the Madrid region. A true multidisciplinary competitor, she built her athletic career through swimming, high-level triathlon at the Blume Residence national centre in Madrid, international adventure raids, and cross-country skiing before becoming a trail ultrarunning specialist for Team Salomon. In 2012 she produced one of the most remarkable double victories in Spanish ultrarunning history: she won the inaugural Ultra-Trail Mount Fuji (160 km, 8,000 m of positive elevation through the mountains surrounding Japan's highest peak) and the Ronda dels Cims in Andorra (170 km, 13,000 m elevation gain), the latter in 35 hours 31 minutes 21 seconds, finishing 5th overall in the race — a clean sweep of two of the longest and most demanding ultras in the world within the same calendar year. Now retired from elite competition, she works as a certified osteopath, sports masseuse, and online personal trainer specialising in trail running, road racing, triathlon, and cycling.
